Shturman Terms of Use
Effective date: 11 October 2026
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This is a translation of the Ukrainian text. If the two differ, the Ukrainian version applies.
Shturman is an app by Mavka Labs. These terms explain how to use it and what we are responsible for. By installing or using Shturman, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
1. What the app does
Shturman guides a car along a route, including when GPS is gone, drifting or showing the wrong place. With an OBD-II adapter, it takes the speed from the car and the direction of travel from the phone's sensors, and checks everything against the OpenStreetMap map. Without an adapter, it estimates the speed automatically from the speed limits on the roads along the route, and moves the car's position along the route.
The app works only with cars. On Android, an OBD-II (ELM327) adapter with Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE or Wi‑Fi will do; on iPhone, only one with Bluetooth LE or Wi‑Fi. The app only reads data from the car.
The app is free for now. If paid features or a subscription ever appear, you will see their terms before paying.
2. Safety on the road
YOUR USE OF THIS REAL TIME ROUTE GUIDANCE APPLICATION IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. LOCATION DATA MAY NOT BE ACCURATE. Apple requires this notice.
- Follow the traffic rules, road signs and police instructions. They always take priority over the app's prompts.
- Mount the phone securely in a holder. Do not set up the app or look at the screen if it distracts you from the road. You alone are responsible for driving safely.
- Connect and disconnect the adapter only when the car is stationary. Use an adapter that suits your car. We are not responsible for third-party adapters or how they affect the car.
- The app only reads data from the car. But whether the adapter itself is reliable and safe depends on its manufacturer.
3. Accuracy and limits
The app works out the car's position, direction, speed, route, arrival time, speed limits and other prompts approximately. They may be inaccurate or wrong because of the map, the sensors, the phone, the adapter, the car, the GPS signal or other causes.
Without an adapter, the speed, the car's position and the arrival time are an estimate based on the roads' speed limits. The car's position on the map may lag behind the real one or run ahead of it. The driver sets the pause at stops and corrects the speed and position by hand.
Speed camera and speed limit warnings come from OpenStreetMap open data. They may be incomplete or out of date. Road signs still take priority.
The app is an assistant, not an autopilot. Do not rely on it in emergency, military or other situations where an error in position could harm someone.
4. Map data
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). The map may be incomplete or contain errors. Vector tiles are provided by OpenFreeMap, based on OpenMapTiles.
We made the road files the app guides by from OpenStreetMap data. This is a derivative database, and it is also licensed under ODbL 1.0. To get a free copy or find out how we build it, write to mavkalabs.support@gmail.com. All data sources and licences are in the Privacy Policy, section 13.
5. Third-party services
The map, address search and routes work through third-party open services (listed in the Privacy Policy). We do not control them. They may stop working, change their terms or restrict access, and then part of the app will temporarily not work. You pay your mobile operator for internet access under your own plan.
6. What is not allowed
You may not disassemble, modify or resell the app, bypass its restrictions, or use it against the law or the rights of others.
You may not send automated or mass requests to the services the app works with (map, roads, search, routes, reports), through the app or bypassing it, in particular to overload them or to bulk-download their data.
7. Who owns the app
The app and its design belong to us. You may use it for your own needs: this is a non-exclusive right, meaning others have the same right. The open-source parts of the app are covered by their own licences (the list and the licences are in the app's settings, the about section).
8. Our liability
The app is provided “as is”. We do not promise that it will always work or be free of errors.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage resulting from your use of the app or your inability to use it. This includes an inaccurate route, position, speed or limit, road accidents, fines, loss of data or the operation of others' services. This clause does not remove liability that the law does not allow us to exclude.
9. Apple and Google
If you installed the app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) also applies to you, and these terms supplement it. On Google Play, the Google Play terms also apply. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for the app, its support or claims about it. We are.
10. Changes
We may change the app and these terms. We will announce important changes in the app or on this page. If you keep using the app after the changes, it means you agree with them.
11. Law and contacts
These terms are governed by the law of Ukraine. We first try to settle a dispute by talking it through — write to us. If that does not work, the dispute is decided by a court under the law of Ukraine. These terms do not take away your rights as a consumer, including the right to go to court where you live. Write to: mavkalabs.support@gmail.com.
